Complications for the patient with Ankylosing Spondylitis, increasing risk of MI, including (when already had history of MI) hypertension, dylipidemia, diabetes, and raise of BMI

However from recent study, Ankylosing Spondylitis and Gout also can increase the risk of myocardial infarction (MI).

From comparison study among general population and who had Ankylosing Spoindylitis in data recording at the Netherland Information Network of General Practice, also, questionnaires in 593 patients who had ankylosing spondylitis, and reported in the Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases on February 25th, they found that;

- 4.4% had prevalence of MI for patients who had Ankylosing Spondylitis, and 1.2% for general population

And, comparison patients who had history of MI vs general population;

- the prevalence of hypertension was 85%, and 54% among patient with no history of MI
- the prevalence of dylipidemia was 92%, and 38% for patients with no MI history,
- the prevalence of diabetes was 23%, and 10% among patients with no MI history,
- body mass index (BMI) 31 kg/m2, and 28 kg/m2 for patients with no history of MI.

In other paper still in the Anals of the Rheumatic Diseases, other study by Dr. Hyon K. Choi from Boston University School of Medicine and colleagues found the linking between Gout and MI.
