Another caution announced by FDA related to prescribing antidepressant medication and adverse effects.
This time for Despiramine Hydrochloride (Norpramin from Sanofi-Aventis) which is used as anti depression medication, especially for the patients who have family history of sudden death, cardiac dysrhythmias, cardiac conduction disturbances, and death.
The side effects of Norpramin which is family of drugs called tricyclic antidepressant include:
- Anxiety
- Confusing
- Dizziness
- Dry mouth
- Frequent urination
- High blood pressure
- Hallucinations
- Hives
- Impaired coordination
- Irregular heartbeat
- Low blood pressure
- Numbness
- Rapid heartbeat
- Sensitivity to sunlight
- Sex drive changes
- Tingling
- Tremors
In clinical studies, antidepressants increased the risk of suicidal thinking and behavior in children and adolescents with depression and other psychiatric disorders.
Individuals being treated with Norpramin and their caregivers should watch for any change in symptoms or any new symptoms that may appear suddenly; especially agitation, anxiety, hostility, panic, restlessness, extreme hyperactivity, and suicidal thinking or behavior.
Other side effect from Norpramin, including other antidepressants such as nausea, headache, and uneasiness can result if the patients suddenly stop using it.
