About pancreatic cancer signs and symptoms, treatment and medication, surgery and chemotherapy, and survival rate

Pancreatic cancer can establish from endrocrine and exocrine portions of the pancreas which is 95% of tumor develops from exocrine portion.

The prognosis of pancreatic cancer in their first metastatic start to local nodes of lymph, next may spread to the liver and lungs including surrounding visceral organs (duodenum, stomach, colon and other surface in abdominal cavity through peritoneal). In rare condition, pancreatic cancer may invasive to bone and brain.

However other treatment may uses chemotherapy, radiotherapy (including adjuvant and neoadjuvant setting), palliative therapy (especially for the patients not undergoing resection and focus to pain relief),

Even most treatment by surgery with any procedure such as Pancreaticoduodenectomy (especially for tumor in the head), Distal Pancreatectomy (especially for tumor in the body), or Total Pancreatectomy (especially for tumor in the neck of the pancreas), still the patients should know the risk of mortality still high, moreover when tumor in the head.
Recent data showed successful curative resection about 20%, and survival rate for 12 months – 19 months about 15%-20% (including survival rate for 5 years).
Even the patient has pass survival over than 5 years, they may still die from recurrent disease.

Pancreatic cancer also leading disease for all-cause of mortality.
Even some data showed the pancreatic cancer risen slow, but the death rate grow up. From 5/100,000 population in 1930 to 10/100,000 population in 2003.
Therefore early treatment and prevention is important.

As pancreatic cancer caused by several factors such as smoking, alcohol, obesity, diabetes mellitus, chronic pancreatitis, dietary, and genetic (age and family history). Therefore lifestyle modification urges to change and some treatments and medication additionally should be take to counter those issue.

In pharmaceutical, drugs categorized antimetabolite, anticoagulants, etc. used as the medication both before and after treatment for pancreatic cancer and their symptoms.
However most of all medicines has contraindicated and side effects, therefore regular control needed to observe the progress of medication.
