A carbon dioxide extracted from the leaves of petaside hybridus just been used by pharmaceutical company to treat allergic rhinitis.
However, the product itself only available in Europe areas and some other countries.
A small double-blind comparative trials conducted by Dr. Carsten B. Schmidt-Weber with the Technical University and Helmholtz Center Munich, Germany, and colleagues found that compared with desloratadine or placebo, extracting this extracting remedies effectively relieves allergic nasal congestion.
Reported in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology on April 14, 2011, the authors said that in exploratory trials showed treatment with this remedies that containing carbon dioxide extract from the leaves of petasite hybridus is superior than in both “desloratadine and placebo in improving the dominant symptoms of nasal obstruction in a seasonal allergic rhinitis model by inhibitiing the critical elements of the leukotriene and chemokine networks.”
The authors also found significance reducing levels of interleukin-8 and leukotriene B4 in nasal secretions before challenge.
The authors speculated that this remedies also can be used effectively as prophylactic treatment in warding off allergic inflammation in the upper airways, whereas specific and adaptive immune response remain intact.
