A recent study states that change one serving of white rice with a serving of beans can lower the metabolic syndrome by 35% compared with those who ate white rice over time.
According to the researchers from Harvard School of Public Health in Boston, increased risk of metabolic syndrome in people who eat white rice over time seen from the increasing levels of sugar, have higher blood pressure, increased tryglicerides levels, and low HDL cholesterol levels.
This results obtained from the analysis of 1,900 men and women in Costa Rica that were involved in the study of heart disease risk factors during 1994 to 2004.
At the beginning of the study, all participants have indicated no diabetes.
The study was also conducted in considering an increased of diabetes cases in this country and phenomenon a rising consumption of white rice and lack of eating beans.
Since beans are well known not only rich in fiber, but also rich in protein and has a low index of glycemic, the authors suggested that the balance of beans intake, including legumes in the diet should be maintained. Moreover, consumption of processed foods like red meat also increased.
