Moreover, according to the findings that reported in Annals of Family Medicine archive for May/June issue, the fracture risk included hip fracture and vertebral fracture can elevated with long term use of PPIs. At least, in the vertebral fracture risk, the use of PPI drug produce higher risk by 54% compared to H2RA drug.

The study authors write, “We found possible evidence linking PPI use to an increased risk of fracture, but no association between H2RA use and fracture risk.”

Therefore, the study authors caution the clinicians during prescribed the medicine, moreover to “the patients that at risk of fracture because of age or other factors,” and they recommended that “drug doses be chosen thoughfully with consideration of what is necessary to achieve desired therapeutic goals.”
