Research from Spain, The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism publish a report on november issued that Perinatal Mortality is higher in women with type 2 diabetes than woman with type 1 diabetes.

The Author said, result of previous studies of the impact of type 2 diabetes on pregnancy outcomes have been mixed.

Dr. Montserrat Balsells from Hospital Mutua de Terrassa, and the Colleagues state on the report that, “Compared with women with type 1 diabetes, those with type 2 diabetes were older and heavier and had higher rates of chronic hypertension and lower rates of pregnancy care. On the other hand, women with type 2 diabetes had lower rates of diabetic complications and lower HbA1c at enrollment and throughout pregnancy.”

diabetes remediesThe risk of perinatal mortality was 50% higher in women with type 2 diabetes than in women with type 1 diabetes, but there were no significant differences in the risks of major congenital malformation, stillbirth, and neonatal mortality.

The researchers said, the risk of diabetic ketoacidosis and cesarean section was significantly lower among women with type 2 diabetes, and there was a trend toward a lower risk of hypoglycemic coma in type 2 diabetics.

The researchers conclude, “Despite a milder glycemic disturbance, women with type 2 diabetes had no better perinatal outcomes than those with type 1, indicating that type 2 diabetes in pregnancy is a serious condition”.

Generally, Perinatal Morality is the sum of the fetal mortality and the neonatal mortality that major causes are; preterm birth which infant respiratory distress syndrome as the leading-cause, and birth defects.
Reductions in perinatal mortality can be achieved through preventive care before pregnancy, improved pregnancy care that includes birth plans and emergency preparedness, skilled attendance during childbirth and refocussed postpartum care for the mother and the baby.

But, in this case we are also need to pay attention regarding to diabetes problem especially type-2 diabetes that also linked to Perinatal Morality.
