Many options for the patient to choose prostate cancer treatment.
Although the physician explain all aspect from each description of available therapy including benefits, risks, procedures, costing and hospitalization matter, final choosing is patients authority.

Whether patient choose radiation seed implant or brachytherapy, external beam radiation , hormonal therapy, or surgery, the physician and the patient will involving with deep and wide consultation for all aspects.

The choose is NOT EASY. Even the doctor said external beam radiation therapy is so simple just sit and lies, and let the radiation (may came from gamma, X-ray, ions, protons, or neutrons) shoot the tumor in the patients organ.

Or, despite the doctor explain that benefits of external beam radiation therapy has same result with surgery, less risk of impotency, non invasive treatment, or no need hospitalization, many patient still hard to choose for the best decision from the treatment offering due to many factors such as ‘unknown side effect’ from the radiation impact–caused the treatment ‘unseen’ comparing with the surgery or other reason such as cultural background of the patient.

Riccardo Valdagni, M.D., director of the prostate program at the Fondazione IRCCS Instituto Nazinale dei Tumori, Milan, Italy, said, “We have to understand the patient’s fear, and patients are afraid of radiation. They think of the atomic bomb, they’re afraid they will become radioactive, and since radiation is invisible, patients can’t see what is going on or see the results. With the surgery, it’s very clear.”

Dr. Valdagni said that the terminology used by medical consultants may be incomprehensible or may even aggravate the patient’s fears, with the liberal use of military metaphors, such as “hitting the target” and “smart bombs”, which are more associated with death than cure.

However, the importance think should be prior, the patient know well how the therapy works, the benefits, the risks both short term and long term, costing, hospitalization, or some ‘personal study’ related to statistic data history for each treatments from the current hospital.
