Foods that should not to eat by pregnant women and how to prepare safe and healthy foods

Pregnant women is susceptible with their immune system. Any attack from virus, bacteria, and parasites may lead to serious illness both the candidate mother and her fetus.
However the dangerous substances could came from the foods, so then it’s important to pregnant women more care about what food should to eat and how to make it for safe.

Bellow list is useful guidance to prepare healthy food for pregnant women.

Avoid eating soft cheeses from unpasteurized milk including Feta, Brie, Camembert, Queso Blaco, Roquefort, and Queso Fresco. All this foods may contain Listeria or E.Colli bacteria.
Therefore it is recommended to consume hard cheeses likes Swiss, Cheddar, or any brand with made from pasteurized milk.

Avoid eating cake batter or raw cookie dough caused may contain Salmonella bacteria.
You can bake the cookies and cake. However don’t lick the spoon.

Avoid eating undercooked fish such as Sushi caused it may contain parasites or bacteria.
If you still want to eat this food, then cook it to 145°F.

Avoid drinking cider or unpasteurized juice including fresh squeezed caused possible contain E.Coli bacteria.
You may choose pasteurized juice or if you still want to use above foods, bring it to rolling boil and boil it for at least 1 minute before drinking.

Avoid drinking unpasteurized milk caused may contain bacteria of E.Coli, campylobacter, salmonella or listeria.
For safety, you should change to pasteurized milk.

Avoid eating salad made in a store such as chicked salad, ham salad, and seafood salad.
These foods may contain Listeria.
You should make by yourself at home with safety standard (clean, separate, cook, and chill).

Avoid eating raw shellfish such as clams and oysters caused may contain Vibrio bacteria.
If you still want to eat that shellfish, cook it to 145°F.

Avoid eating raw or undercooked Sprouts such as clover, alfalfa, radish, and mung bean caused possibilities of E.Coli bacteria and Salmonella.
If you still want to eat that raw Sprouts, cook sprouts thoroughly.

Another food you should be aware as following;

- Luncheon meats, hot dogs, cold cuts, fermented or dry sausage, and other deli-style meat and poultry. All these food may contain Listeria.
Whatever the label stated, reheats these meats to steaming hot or 165° F before eating.

- Eggs and pasteurized egg due to possible containing Salmonella.
You should cook the eggs until yolks are firm. Also cook casseroles and other dishes containing eggs or egg products to 160° F.

- Homemade eggnog may contain uncooked eggs which also may contain Salmonella.
If you want to eat this food, make eggnog with a pasteurized egg product or buy pasteurized eggnog.
When you make eggnog or other egg-fortified beverages, cook to 160°F.

- Fish may contain parasites or bacteria.
For safety, cook fish to 145°F.

- Homemade ice cream may contain uncooked eggs, which may contain Salmonella.
For safety, make ice cream with a pasteurized egg product safer by adding the eggs to the amount of liquid called for in the recipe, then heating the mixture thoroughly.

- Undercooked Meat such as beef, lamb, veal, and pork including ground meat may contain E. Colli bacteria.
For safety, cook veal, beef, roasts, and lamb steaks to 145°F. For pork, cook to 160°F. For all ground meats cook to 160°F.

- Unpasteurized refrigerated meat spread or pates may contain Listeria.
For safey better eat canned versions.

- Poultry and stuffing including ground poultry may contain Salmonella bacteria or Campylobacter.
For safety, cook the poultry to 165°F. If the poultry is stuffed, cook the stuffing to 165°F. Better yet, cook the stuffing separately.

- Refirgerated of smoked seafood are not safe unless it has been cooked to 165°F.
For safety, eat canned versions or cook to 165°F.
