High dose isoflavon during prostate cancer therapy ADT may risk of Sexual Dysfunction

Recent study from Georgetown University, Washington, DC, reported that Prostate Cancer Therapy with profound hypogonadism due to Androgen Deprivation Therapy (ADT) may results in complications of;

- sexual dysfunction,
- poor quality of live,
- vasomotor symptoms, and
- altered cognition.

ADT is generally employed in the treatment of locally advance and metastatic Prostate cancer.
Although this adjuvant therapy has resulted in improved survival in some patients, however, ADT has negative impact as above mention.

Other complication related to Androgen Deprivation Therapy included;

- osteoporosis,
- gynecomastia, and
- adverse body composition.

Phytoestrogens are being increasingly evaluated as a potential treatment since estrogen used was associated with cardiovascular risk.
Due to this, the researchers investigate the adverse effects of phytoestrogens by evaluated the effects of high dose isoplavone on the aforementioned consequences of androgen deprivation therapy.

The study involved 33 men undergoing ADT for prostate cancer and were enrolled for 12 week in this randomized, double-blind, and placebo controlled.

According to the study authors, hot flashes is the most common vasomotor symptoms that were viewed largely as a symptom affecting quality of live and are the leading reason women seek menopause-related health care.
They point out that in the early studies, vasomotor symptoms have been found to be associated with a less favorable cardiovascular risk profile and atherosclerosis.
